The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle

The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle

Beatrix Potter

A
charming discovery on the hillside leads to the tidiest little house in the
world. When a
little girl named Lucie loses her pocket-handkerchiefs and a pinafore, she climbs
high up the mountain to find them. Instead of her lost laundry, she finds a
tiny door in the
grass and a very busy, very prickly little washerwoman named Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle. Inside
the cozy kitchen, Lucie watches as the “excellent clear-starcher”
irons and scrubs
for all the animals in the forest—from Peter Rabbit’s blue coat to a robin’s
red vest. It is a
day of warm iron smells, soapy bubbles, and a wonderful secret that Lucie
discovers as she
heads back down the path.
